Student Advisor Spotlight: Ayana Malone '25

Student Advisor Spotlight: Ayana Malone '25

Recent graduate Ayana Malone joined the student advisory board because she values the importance of thinking critically about the tough questions that impact the MCAS community. A lifelong MCAS student, Ayana gained firsthand experience with how schools across the district operate, making her a strong leader in implementing meaningful improvements. She contributed through the Culture and Environment pillar and looked forward to expanding her involvement to the Student Voice and Opportunities and Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners pillars.

At MCHS, Malone was actively involved in the school community, serving as vice president of both the National Honor Society and the Early College Club. She was also a member of Student Council and the Strategic Plan Steering Committee. This fall, she will attend Purdue University to study psychology. In her free time, she enjoys baking and playing volleyball.

The Culture and Environment pillar is already hard at work, planning events that support its goals, including a quarterly town hall. According to Malone, students will have 30 minutes to ask questions about the advisory board’s work and voice any concerns. At the end of each nine-week period, the board will follow up to address any unanswered questions and share updates on changes that have been made.

Reflecting on her time as a student advisor, Malone said she hopes to see lasting change at MCHS. She appreciated that students are now being taken seriously, their opinions are heard, and adjustments are being made based on their feedback. It’s important to her that students know their voices matter.

She also emphasized the value of the connections students can build by getting involved in the strategic plan. Through this work, students can network with individuals they might not otherwise meet, hear a range of ideas and perspectives, and find peers who share similar views.
