PACK PRIDE Staff Spotlight: Zachary Bartelheim

PACK PRIDE Staff Spotlight: Zachary Bartelheim

We are starting off Pack Pride strong this year with Michigan City High School Special Education teacher and Wrestling Coach Zach Bartelheim! Nominated by MCHS Assistant Principal Ryan Turley, Bartelheim is being recognized for his positive commitment to students and staff.

“Zach goes above and beyond for all his students, athletes, co-workers, and administrators,” says Turley. “He is very organized and does a great job of confirming he has all stakeholders informed of meeting times and what to expect.”

Bartelheim shared that he has truly found a home at MCHS and is motivated to give back to the school community. “MCHS has really made me feel welcome. The students, staff, and community have really made me feel like family. I have met some amazing staff members while working here.”

Bartelheim deeply values the work he does for Michigan City High School and the district as a whole. He explained that his dedication comes from the strong sense of support he feels from the community around him.

“The students motivate me to show up and give my best each day. They always greet me with a smile and thank me for helping them. We are truly blessed to have these great kids at MCHS.”

Beyond the classroom and wrestling mat, Bartelheim is also committed to getting involved with student clubs and activities. “This school year, my goal was to be more involved with clubs. I was asked to sponsor Helping Hands this year. We have really made a difference in the community and at the school.”

He sees all the opportunities the high school offers and wants to support students as much as he can. “I want to give my students a safe space to grow and reach their full potential.”

Assistant Principal Turley explained that Bartelheim exhibits multiple MCAS Habits of Character on a daily basis, namely respect, empathy, responsibility, accountability, and flexibility. As both a teacher and colleague, he is known for his organization and follow-through.

“When Zach is planning an ACR (Annual Case Review) or a 504, he not only sends an email, but he will make a point of it to follow up with a phone call or come find you to make sure that we have representation from the admin side. He is well prepared, and all his meetings seem to run smoothly because of his attention to detail.”

That extra effort and intentional communication do not go unnoticed and help set a positive standard for collaboration across the building.

“It is much appreciated and noticed by all, especially administration, the attention to detail and extra effort you put in at Michigan City High School. We are thankful to have you on the TEAM here at CITY!”
