Chromebooks
Dear Michigan City Area Schools Families,
Again this school year, all MCAS students (grades K-12) will be issued a school-owned Chromebook or tablet. All students will be bringing these devices home – either daily or on a limited basis – unless a parent/guardian does not consent.
If you DO consent to your child bringing home a school-issued device, you do not need to sign anything.
If you DO NOT consent to your child bringing home a school-issued device, you should sign in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal to complete the required opt-out form. (This form is under “Student Reports” – see click here for instructions.)
In addition, we are offering an optional insurance program for Chromebooks and tablets.
Grades 7-12 Insurance Coverage:
If you wish to purchase optional insurance for a Chromebook/tablet, please pay $30 (check or money order payable to your child’s school). Please take or mail payment to your child's school. Insurance is good for one year. It will cover two (2) repairs for accidental breakage that require part replacement.
Grades K-6 Insurance Coverage:
"No Break, No Pay" Policy: Families will be notified and charged a $30 one-time fee if a device is damaged accidentally, at the time of the reported damage. Payment is not required until you are notified.
Equipment that is misused, abused, vandalized or repeatedly damaged through carelessness or neglect will NOT be covered by insurance, and the full cost of parts will be charged to the student/parent/guardian.
If you would like to purchase insurance for your grade 7-12 student, please complete this form and return it to your child's school with your payment (check or money order payable to your child's school). If you decline to purchase insurance, your family is responsible for all costs involved with the repair or replacement of the device. (Please note that K-6 families do not need to pay in advance for insurance this year; you will be notified in the event of damage and can make a one-time $30 payment at that time.)
Thank you for your support. We are looking forward to a great school year!
Sincerely,
Kevin M. McGuire, CFO
