Special Education Services

Welcome to the Special Education Services page! Here you can find descriptions of all support programs offered in MCAS Special Education's Continuum of Services.

Behavior Support Program

  • Purpose
    • Teach grade level instruction in a small learning environment to students who are behind academically due to their behavior. Provide more intensive mental health and SEL support.
  • Eligibility
    • Identified students whose behaviors significantly impact their progress in the educational setting.
  • Programming
    • Provide students with coping and regulation skills to transition to a general education setting with resource support.
  • LRE: 51 or 52

Co Teaching

  • Purpose
    • Special education teacher provides grade level specially designed instruction, accommodations, and support in conjunction with the general education teacher in the general education setting.
  • Eligibility
    • Any student with an IEP (all areas of eligibility)
  • Programming
    • Grade level delivered in the general education setting
  • LRE: 50
     

Developmental PreK

  • Purpose
    • Provide instructional support for identified focus on addressing adaptive, social, language, and physical needs
  • Eligibility
    • Children living within MCAS district found through Child Find and found eligible for services through the evaluation process
  • Programming
    • Receive primary instruction in the special education setting
      • Walk-in services are also available for some needs.

GOALS - Joy

  • Purpose
    • Teach independent living, social and academic skills for daily functioning in the community through alternate standards.
  • Eligibility
    • Identified needs or disability moderately to significantly impact intellectual functioning and adaptive behaviors.
  • Programming
    • Receive primary instruction in the special education setting.
      • Learn Indiana Content Connectors via Unique Learning System.
      • Push-in for some general education content.
      • Practice daily living skills.
      • Earn a Certificate of Completion (non-diploma track).
      • Community-based instruction.
      • Students require a high level of adult support to complete daily and academic tasks.
  • LRE: 52 or 51

GOALS - Knapp

  • Purpose
    • Teach grade level instruction at a modified pace and with a focus on social skills and adaptive behavior.
  • Eligibility
    • Students identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other neuro-atypical disabilities.
  • Programming
    • Receive primary instruction in  the special education setting.
      • Push-in for some general education content.
      • Some students may be working toward grade level standards.
      • Learn Indiana Content Content Connectors via Unique Learning System.
      • Most students earn a Certificate of Completion (non-diploma track), some earn a diploma.
      • Students require a moderate to high level of adult support to complete academic tasks.
  • LRE: 52 or 51

GOALS - Secondary

  • Purpose
    • Teach independent living, social and academic skills for daily functioning in the community through alternate standards.
  • Eligibility
    • Identified needs or disability moderately to significantly impacts intellectual functioning and adaptive behaviors including students identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other neuro-atypical disabilities.
  • Programming
    • Receive primary instruction in the special education setting.

      • Community based instruction.
      • Students require a high level of adult support to complete daily and academic tasks.

Resource

  • Purpose
    • Provide access to the general education setting by addressing any identified need (academic, behavioral, social, emotional, or adaptive) through specially designed instruction
  • Eligibility
    • Any student with an IEP (all areas of eligibility)
  • Programming
    • Receive primary instruction in general education. Push-in or pull-out support from special education teachers, instructional assistants, and related service personnel.
  • LRE: 50 or 51
