Welcome to the Michigan City Area Schools' Deaf and Hard of Hearing Webpage. Our hope is that you find the information on this site meaningful. Our goal is to provide parents, teachers, and staff with further information about hearing loss, provide resources, and share with you opportunities to learn sign language. We provide services to students in grades Pre-K through 12th with all levels of hearing. Meeting the communication needs of each of our students is of the utmost importance.

Meet Mrs. Baldwin

My name is Susan Baldwin and this is my 26th year teaching for the Michigan City Area Schools.I was hired in 1998 as a teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing. During my first three years, I had the privilege of teaching preschoolers with a variety of special needs. I then went on to teach fourth grade for three years and first grade for nine years, all at Joy Elementary School. In the Fall of 2013, I returned to Special Education as the teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing. I earned my Bachelor's Degree from Ball State University and my Master's Degree from Indiana University South Bend. My husband, Jeff and I have been married for 21 years. We have two sons. Our oldest is a freshman in college and our youngest is a senior at MCHS.

Request an Interpreter

MCAS will provide special access to seating and an interpreter for the Dead and Hard of Hearing at any school program, meeting, parent conference, or other function.

Please notify your child's school office to request a sign language interpreter for any family member or friend who may need this service.
