School Meal Menus
School Meals Are Safe and Nutritious!
As Michigan City Area Schools students return to school this fall, you can rest assured the Child Nutrition Department continues to do everything we can to assure their safety. Safety and sanitation procedures have always been of the utmost importance but were increased due to the pandemic.
As always, students will find healthy choices in their school cafeterias. Michigan City Area Schools serve school meals that meet tough federal nutrition standards, ensuring that meals are healthy, well-balanced and provide students all the nutrition they need to succeed at school.
School meals offer students milk, fruits and vegetables, proteins and grains, and they must meet strict limits for saturated fat and portion size.
All school lunches meet standards requiring:
-
Age-appropriate calorie limits
-
Large servings of vegetables and fruits
-
A wide variety of vegetables (including dark green and red/orange vegetables and legumes)
-
Fat-free or 1% milk
-
Whole grains
-
Less Sodium
We’re always working to offer Michigan City Area Schools students healthier and tastier choices!
