Visitors & Volunteers
Volunteer Forms
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Michigan City Area Schools!
Please note that we ask all volunteers in our schools to complete the forms below, which include a criminal background check. Volunteers are approved for three years - and are then asked to fill out the forms again to re-apply. Thank you for helping us keep our students safe!
Please submit the completed forms to the school office where you will be volunteering.
Visitor Information
Michigan City Area Schools uses the Raptor Visitor Management System to screen visitors, contractors, and volunteers. Upon entering a school, all visitors are asked to present an ID such as a Driver’s License, which will be scanned or manually entered into the system.
The Raptor system checks the visitor's name and date of birth for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders. The registered sex offender database is the only database checked by the Raptor system. No other data from the ID is gathered or recorded and the information is not shared with any outside agency.
Once entry is approved, Raptor issues a badge that identifies the visitor, date, and purpose of the person's visit. Upon leaving the school, the visitor should again report to the office to be checked out.
A visitor’s badge is not necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off an item in the office or pick up paperwork. We also do not use this system for large events open to the public, such as school awards programs or performances.
