  • Technology: From Good to GREAT!

You can feel the positive energy and the excitement in our schools this year: Teachers across MCAS have begun transforming classroom lessons in a digital environment. We are grateful to the Michigan City Redevelopment Commission for their support! Recently they approved grant to help fund our first steps in upgrading infrastructure and financing our staff development. We're now improving WiFi and connectivity in all buildings, enhancing servers, and soon Chromebooks will be deployed to middle school English classrooms. We're excited about what the future holds for MCAS!

What does this look like? Special thanks to Krueger Middle School teacher Shannon Galloway and her students for the short video below:

  • Welcome to the 2015-16 School Year!

    Barker Students with Dr. Eason-Watkins

Dr. Eason-Watkins (back row, third from left) at Barker Middle School
As I visited many of our buildings on the first day of school this year, it struck me how very proud I am of our students and staff. Over the past five years, I have seen amazing progress – ISTEP and Algebra scores are rising steadily, our graduation rate is at an all-time high, and we've received a number of awards and accolades for our college and career prep programs, K-12.
This school year our theme is "from good to GREAT"! We will continue to focus on the instructional core and a commitment to preparing our students for success in college and careers. We also will continue popular program options for families – including elementary magnet schools in STEM and the Arts, services for gifted and talented students, themes at the middle school level, a wide range of athletics and extra-curriculars, and much more.
I invite you to return to our web site often, and I encourage all parents to use the Parent Access system (click the icon at the top of this page). This is an important tool that will help you track your child’s grades and attendance. I also encourage you to use the Staff Directory function to stay in close communication with your child’s school and teachers. Parents are important partners in the educational success of every child.
    Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins
