  • Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!

    Dr. Eason-Watkins and Children

As I visited schools on the first day this year, it struck me how proud I am of our students and staff. Over the past six years, our school district has made amazing progress! Our graduation rate is at an all-time high, and we've received a number of awards and accolades for our college and career prep programs, K-12.

This year we will reach new heights! Thanks to an investment by our City, Redevelopment Commission, and other grant funding we are embarking on a multi-million dollar technology plan that will transform learning in our classrooms.

And as we focus on the instructional core and prepare our students for future success, we also will continue popular program options for families – including elementary magnet schools in STEM and the Arts, services for gifted and talented students, themes at the middle school level, a wide range of athletics and extra-curriculars, and much more.

I invite you to return to our web site often, and I encourage all parents to use the Parent Access system (click the icon at the top of this page). This is an important tool that will help you track your child’s grades and attendance. Please stay in close communication with your child’s school and teachers. Parents are important partners in the educational success of every child!

    Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins, Superintendent

  • Technology: From Good to GREAT!

You can feel the positive energy and the excitement in our schools this year: Teachers across MCAS have begun transforming classroom lessons in a digital environment. We are grateful to the Michigan City Redevelopment Commission for their support! Recently they approved grant to help fund our first steps in upgrading infrastructure and financing our staff development. We're now improving WiFi and connectivity in all buildings, enhancing servers, and soon Chromebooks will be deployed to middle school English classrooms. We're excited about what the future holds for MCAS!
